KFC has made a name for itself in the world of restaurants, and is now one of the largest fastfood chains in the world today.

A customer has the choice of different kinds of fried chicken served up with many different kinds of side dishes, such as coleslaw and mashed potatoes. This kind of heritage combined with the variations of the dishes and meals that KFC has to offer has made this chain of restaurants a resounding success.

KFC and Colonel Sanders

Contrary to the namesake of his restaurant chain, Sanders himself was actually born in Henryville, Indiana. He passed through many other professions in his lifetime, and only actually served his famous recipe of fried chicken in 1930 in the midst of the Great Depression.

This dining area in North Corbin, Kentucky was named Sanders Court & Café. It became so successful that in 1935, the governor of Kentucky at the time granted Sanders the title of honorary Kentucky Colonel.

Sanders expanded his restaurant with motel he bought across the street the year after he earned the honorary title. In 1939, the cooking process for his unique recipe of fried chicken was altered to use a pressure fryer, making the cooking time of his trademark chicken faster than the old iron skillet method. This came to be known as his Original Recipe.
